After having learnt about the spine the next step is to examine the two major masses attached to it: the ribcage and the pelvis. For this session I attended to the latter.

The human pelvis consists of the Ilium, the Pubis, the Ischium and the Sacral meaning the Sacrum and the Coccyx. The Ilium is the biggest and most visible part. You can see its top rim which is called the Iliac crest at the front of your body on the outer sides, especially when the body is stretched. Together with the Pubic bone the Ilium defines the "V" of the crotch. The Ischium is hardly visible on the outside.

For the assignment I had to draw the pelvis as a simplified bucket shape freehand. In order to get the right form of the Ilium it's best to cut out a wedge (2/3 from one half and half of the vertical axis) as the resulting structure marks the highest point of the Ilia. Regarding the process I sketched the bucket first, then drew the cut-out form and after that a more detailed yet simplified version of the pelvis.

On my first try I had a lot of difficulties understanding the individual parts but I feel like it helped me a lot to get to know a part of the body that I never bothered to notice before. Looking at my sketches a few days after I see some mistakes though and know that I still struggle with the back view of the pelvis. Nevertheless I enjoyed this lesson very much.
